After two years, Word International Ontario once again held its family camp entitled WE WIN– Becoming the WINNER God Wants You to Be. The excitement and anticipation was very evident from the very time the campers started to arrive at the Pearce Williams Christian Centre in Fingal, Ontario. For the participants, the camp would be a welcome break from the stress of everyday life. Many came having great expectations of getting closer to the Lord, being revived and encouraged. As always, the Lord has been faithful in not only meeting those expectations but exceeding them as well.

Camp Highlights:

· The Young Adults surprised everyone by preparing a candlelight dinner complete with piano music

· Eight people made a public declaration of their faith by being baptized in water

· The Youth Ministry also served lunch while entertaining the campers with special numbers.

· It was not only the adults who were blessed and learned about the Lord during the camp, our children were also blessed with creative lessons and activities. Thank you Sis Ailene and Sis Meann.

· The group cheering and presentations were as tight as ever with every group pulling out all the stops to emerge as winners

With everything that happened in the camp, everybody came out winners!

Has your speech ever gotten you in trouble? Perhaps you have said something that you wish you had not. Or maybe you have been on the receiving end of a biting comment or a thoughtless criticism. If so, you probably can appreciate the great damage that can come from harsh words.

The Bible recognizes the power of our words:

The tongue can bring death or life;
those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
Proverbs 18:21 NLT

Life and death? How powerful our words are! A few kind words can help a friend get through a difficult situation. A thoughtful “thank you” from a child can erase a parent’s weariness after a hard day’s work. A father’s loving encouragement has the capacity to shape a son’s future. On the other hand, words used falsely, harshly or negatively have the power of death. Are you familiar with the expression, “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”? I completely disagree! The hurt words can inflict are deep and lingering. If you have ever been a victim of gossip, or slander you know very well that this is true.

Maybe we should take a moment today to think about how we’ve been using our words. A lot of the people around us could sure use some life-giving encouragement. In doing so, don’t be surprised if you get encouraged as well. That’s how it usually works.

(Aside form being the Pastor of WIN Ontario, Pastor Jong is also the Regional Director of Word International Ministries, Canada. He has a Certificate in Divinity Studies from Asian Theological Seminary and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. He and his wife Nicole have a passion for serving the Lord that goes back to their days in the youth ministry.)

The camps in the past have provided times of personal reflection and family fun, hanging out with friends and getting to know other people in the church.

The theme for this year’s camp is “WE WIN!” The focus will be on becoming the winner God wants us to be based on Romans 8:37. “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”

Entitled CROSSROADS, the aim of this Youth Camp is to emphasize the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all the decisions or “crossroads” young people face. The energy and enthusiasm of the youth was very evident in all the programs and activities: personal devotions, small group dynamics, praise and worship, presentations and games. But more than the fun and friendship, these camp ignited a passion in the youth to worship the Lord and seriously follow Him in their lives. This has marked the beginning of more young lives being changed and touched by God.
